– I was trying to figure out what to get my daughter for her birthday gift.

What would you never do in bed?
ベッドで絶対にしないことは？
– I never drink red wine in bed.
赤ワインを飲まない。溢すと大変だから。

What are you working on right now?

– Lately I've been thinking a lot about my basket ideas.
最近はカゴのアイデアを考えている事が多いです。

Who has had the largest influence on your work except yourself?
ご自身以外で、あなたの作品に最も影響を与えたのは誰ですか？
– I feel that the building of the kindergarten I attended would be the source of inspiration for my work. Thus, the person who influenced my work may be the architect Mr. Kenzo Tange who was in charge of the design.
自分の通っていた幼稚園の建物が私の作品の源になっていると感じています。よってその建物をデザインした丹下健三氏になるかもしれません。

What do you dream about?
あなたはどんな夢をみますか？
– I love to have a dream of flying in the sky, but usually I don't perform so well.
空を飛ぶ夢を見るのが好きですが、いつも上手く飛べません。

For what purpose do you create?
あなたの創作活動の目的は？
– One of the purposes of creation is to enter into a corner of someone's life and provide with comfort and inspiration.
誰かの生活の一部に入り込み、心地良さや感動を与える事が目的。

– I’m good at table football.

– Wright Brothers' first flight

Is talent something you’re born with or something you can learn?
才能は生まれつきのものなのか、それとも学ぶものなのか？あなたの考えを聞かせてください。
– I believe that anyone who accomplishes a great achievement must have poured efforts at some point during the process.
偉業を成し遂げた人は必ずどこかで努力をしていると思います。

What are you teaching your kids?
あなたは子供たちに何を教えていますか？
– I am trying to motivate my daughter to have her own opinion and think for herself, though it’s not so easy.
自分の意見を持ち、自分で考えるようにさせていますが、なかなか難しいです…

What is your favourite book and why?
あなたのお気に入りの本とその理由を教えてください。
– "Architecture Without Architects" by Bernard Rudofsky. This is a book that I came across and influenced my early days in design. It introduces a number of buildings created to adapt to various local environments. This made me realize how crucial and genuine it is to create something with a clear purpose, no matter who the architect or designer it may involve.
デザインを志した頃に出会って影響を受けた本。様々な土地の環境に合わせて作られてきた建物が多数紹介されている。製作者の名前が重要ではなく、明確な目的のものづくりが如何に重要であり、純粋であるかを教えられた気がします。

What do you think about sports?
あなたにとってスポーツとは？

– Something that is instantaneous and inspiring. I love to watch it, but I also love to actually play it.
